This Monday, Nov. 24, the Tiger Symphonic Band will perform their Fall Anniversary Concert at 8 p.m. in John L. Hill Chapel. This concert celebrates 164 years of bands at Georgetown College and will feature student soloist Sara Clarke and student director Gavin Sewell. As always, the price of admission for the concert is one canned or processed food item. All of the proceeds will be donated to the AMEN House and will be distributed to those in need in the Georgetown-Scott County area.
One highlight of the evening that you will not want to miss is Sara Clarke’s solo on the “Concertino for Flute” by Cecile Chaminade. Sara is a senior from Louisville, Ky and is the daughter of Daniel and Andrea Clarke. She is a graduate of Eastern High School and is double majoring in the areas of Business Management and Religion. Another highlight of the evening will be the band’s performance of “Greensleeves” by Alfred Reed under the direction of Student Conductor Gavin Sewell. Gavin is a senior from Dawson Springs, Ky. and is the son of David and Jenny Beshear Sewell. He is a graduate from Dawson Springs High School and is Biological Science Major and Church Music Minor. Another special part of the evening is that the residents from the Windsor Gardens retirement home will be in the audience. This performance will be the third concert that the residents have attended, which means that the relationship between Tiger Bands and Windsor Gardens has passed the one year anniversary.
Each month Tiger Bands and Windsor Gardens coordinate monthly activities between the Band Scholars and the residents. This year, the activities have been a “Grrr… Pep Band” performance and a bingo game. The next activity will be a special Christmas service that will involve a quartet performance, scripture reading, a message from a Band Scholar and will also feature Christmas songs. The Tiger Symphonic Band will also perform a couple of songs at the Thanksgiving Week Chapel Service on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Also, be sure to catch your Tiger Bands performing at basketball games in the near future. Be sure to join the Tiger symphonic Band on Monday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m. in the chapel. It will be a celebration of 164 years of bands at Georgetown and the band is sure to uphold the long lasting tradition of “Music for all Occasions.”
